Borsec was once the most fashionable and elegant spa resorts in the Austro-Hungarian empire. During communism the place kept some of his charm and was visited by many people. Its clear, clean air, its magnificent position in the fairytale Carpathian landscape, and the reputation of its waters – led to the development of a leafy garden resort of bath houses, restaurants and pavilions, as well as 72 elegant beautiful wooden villas. The last throes of the Habsburg Empire were quite something if the flair, brio and pleasure of the architecture in Budapest, Vienna and Borsec are anything to go by.
2012 ARTISTS RESIDENCY, TRANSYLVANIA, ROMANIA
INSIDEZONE is a short-term residency organized every year in Borsec town. The residency is in a beautiful house from the central area of the upper town part. The town is located at the base of Carpathian Mountains. Upper town it is at 15 minutes walk from the town's main square, at an altitude of 950m. Artfest Cultural Society, a Romanian non-profit art entity, organizes it.
The BORSEC TOWN and the surrounding area were well known in the past for their spas and best mineral waters of Eastern Europe. Even now, there's a modern factory bottling the water and spread all over Europe but also in USA. A curtain of coniferous forests that makes a gorgeous landscape and protects it from heat in the summer and cold winds in the winter surrounds the resort. Wild animals still may be spotted. There are plenty of wild protected flowers in the spring on the pastures.
PLACE The surroundings are quiet and inspiring; the wooded and stone house has a large courtyard. You will meet worldwide and Romanian artists, discover Transylvanian mountains and their green forests as close as 5 minutes walk. We can arrange for you to keep a reading, performance, exhibition etc.
DURATION One up to four weeks. The basic, minimum, period starts from 6th of May to 12th but you may extend it, even after arrival. However, the first week there will be some days for exploring the area and also for few artistic local events that you may join if you want.
ARTISTS from all over the world are welcomed. Work is individual or collective; it depends on anyone's will, proposals are very welcomed. Search on our links for inspiration and to check the other artists’ work.
